Beginner Fitness 55+ This class is designed to introduce fitness and its many benefits to the beginning older student. Start off with a 15-minute warm-up to a variety of musical styles and tempos that are fun and light-hearted. You learn exercises that strengthen all the major muscle groups, paying particular attention to the hip joint. Posture and balance exercises are included.

The Doctor's Senior Exercise program was developed by Dr. Emanuel M. Cane, who at age 85, was a practicing Chiropractor for over 53 years. After treating patients for many different ailments and recommending exercises and other ways in which these patients can alleviate their aches and pains, I realized that I was neglecting my own health in the process.

I was never one to go to gyms and exercise, even if I could find the time. It was then that I decided to develop an exercise program that I could do in my own time and at my own pace. I needed a program that was simple and wouldn't take too much time, yet was effective.

Developed by Chris Landers, R.N., to fill a void in proper exercise for the elderly, which she found following her father's bout with cancer and radiation therapy, Elderobics was first released in 1990 and was featured in Parade Magazine's "Guide to Better Fitness" column by Michael O'Shea, Ph.D.

Studies indicate that adults lose a significant amount of flexibility as they age. The loss of flexibility reduces the amount and nature of movement that can be made at the joint. It also increases the possibility of injury to the joint or the muscles crossing the joint including muscle, tendon or ligament strain, damage or detachment. Strength and cardiovascular programs alone will not effectively increase flexibility. The mobility zone training system provides an easy to follow full body stretching program; guiding you through exercises that contribute to ease of motion, injury prevention, and the ability to perform proper gait and other movement patterns.
